Designated as one of Ireland's heritage towns, it nestles under the shadow of the imposing Croagh Patrick Mountain and overlooks Clew Bay in County Mayo.
The town's other attractions include the famous Westport House and Country Estate, one of Ireland's top day trip attractions. This Gerogian mansion, home of Lord Sligo, is well worth a visit and is open to the public from April to September each year.
Hiking in Westport - This area is a haven for hikers of all levels; you can hike in the hills and Croagh Patrick, take a walk on the seashore, or a walk around the town. The Western Way, a marked trail, passes through Westport and a wide variety of guided walks are also available.
Clew Bay Heritage Centre, located at the Quay area, offers visitors a trip back in time with a museum of local heritage, maritime traditions, people and places. There is a full genealogical service, as well as uided walks and tours.
Blue flag beaches are just a short drive from the town (6 miles). Guests love taking hikes in the area and ever-changing landscape, as well as the joy of walking in solitude by an Atlantic shore.
Achill Island (12 miles) - The picturesque villages are set against the most magnificent mountainous landscapes and coastal scenery. The highest cliffs in Ireland dive dramatically into the deep blue Atlantic Ocean amid the finest and cleanest beaches and waters in Europe.

Music is usually featured in The Cobblers Bar & Courtyard on most Fridays and Saturdays. The traditional Irish music session every Sunday night, starting at 8pm, is always popular.
